Does this make you cringe too?

We’ve all got those stories, you know the ones:

  • When your skirt got tucked into your knickers at an awards event giving guests an eye full.
  • Having to call your fave glossy magazine to pitch a story you knew they 100% wouldn’t be interested in.
  • The conversation which triggered you into a downward spiral of regret.
  • The school appointment you missed because you were busy commuting to a job you didn’t (or don’t)like.

We’re grimacing at the stories we’ve experienced and heard over the years.

And that’s the thing, while cringeworthy moments are perhaps ones we’d rather forget, they can make great stories, often with a learning or two thrown in for good measure.

We talk a lot about the power of a good story and how weaving them into your copywriting and content creation can give you a deeper connection with your audience to inspire action.

So does this mean you need to share the uncomfortable stories? The warts and all? No, it doesn’t.

You don’t need to speak about or share anything which makes you uncomfortable, it’s your choice. And even if you see others sharing, if it makes you cringe, don’t feel like you’ve got to follow in the same direction.

If you’re not sure, ask yourself whether the story you’re thinking about sharing would add value to your audience. Would it connect with them? Would it help them get to know, like and trust you more?

Personal stories are great and add real depth to your messaging, but remember, they’re your stories and you have to feel good about sharing them. You get to choose.

With love,

Laura + Becca

Gabrielle Bernstein

I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein last summer, inhaling her book The Universe has got your back while on holiday in France. Since then I've literally read her entire repertoire. I can't get enough of her positivity and make picking an affirmation card the first task of my day.

Marie Forleo

I discovered Marie Forleo at the end of 2019 and devoured her book Everything is Figureoutable in a day. I love her New Jersey no nonsense approach to problem solving and how she's all about the fun. Because we all need more of that.

Mountains

Mountains, I love 'em. I love looking at them, hiking them and the endless possibilities they hold. Our favourite place to explore in the UK is the Lake District, whenever we have a spare weekend or day, we throw the tent in the car and head to the hills.
